Intel introduces new chips in the battle for data center business

Intel on Tuesday unveiled a new line of data center microprocessors, marking a battle with Advanced Micro Devices and other companies for the lucrative business of cloud computing chips.

The new Xeon Scalable Processor chips provide much greater support for next-generation applications such as artificial intelligence and au-automated vehicles, said Naveen Rao, vice president of Intel’s Artificial Intelligence product group, in an interview with Reuters.

The chips point to companies such as Google Alphabet, Microsoft, and others that operate data centers with thousands of computers.

Google’s cloud platform was the first “data center” to use Intel’s new processors, a move that Google’s Paul Nash called a “deepening and deepening” partnership between companies.
